Abstract: This work is an entry for the second edition of Sage's Encyclopedia of Business Ethics and Society. It provides a broad definition of insider trading, discusses examples of the possible origins of inside information, and analyzes the economic and ethical problems associated with using nonpublic information to one's own benefit.
