Globalisierung der Automobilindustrie: Neue Standorte auf dem Vormarsch, traditionelle Anbieter unter Druck?

Abstract: Der Beitrag analysiert die internationalen
Produktionsverlagerungen und Investitionsverflechtungen in der
Automobilindustrie, um die These zu überprüfen, dass es selbst bei der
Herstellung relativ wissens- und technologieintensiver Güter zu einem
nachdrängenden Wettbewerb aus Ländern mit vergleichsweise niedrigem
Pro-Kopf-Einkommen gekommen ist. Die Ergebnisse sprechen – insgesamt
gesehen – eher dagegen, dass die Automobilproduktion an den traditionellen
Standorten bereits in der Vergangenheit durch das Vordringen neuer Anbieter
stark beeinträchtigt worden ist. Der "Wettbewerb von unten" dürfte in
Zukunft aber intensiver werden.
The relocation of automobile production
and international investment patterns of major car producers are analyzed
in order to test the hypothesis that the competitive pressure resulting
from countries with relatively low per capita income has increased even in
the production of fairly human-capital-intensive and technologically
advanced goods. Taken together, the evidence tends to reject the view that
the production of automobiles in traditional locations has already suffered
significantly from the emergence of new suppliers. However, competition
from lower-income countries is likely to become fiercer in the future.
